Unaccountable council committee fails our patch
So have you? Have you ever heard of the Roehampton Partnership? Do you know what it does, who's on it, where it meets or when it meets?
Chances are the answer to all those questions are "no". But the Roehampton Partnership wields a lot of power: it claims to oversee projects in Roehampton worth £33 million. With that sort of clout, isn't it important that local people have a much greater say on those projects, rather than on a self-selecting membership of what the Conservative council calls "worthies" - bodies like the Bank of England and the ATP - but not residents of the Alton estate.

Pathe film from the 1970 general election
Below are some screen grabs of a film on the British Pathe archive website which show former Deputy Prime Minister George Brown MP campaigning with Putney MP Hugh Jenkins in the 1970 General Election. Where are they? Nowhere other than Tangley Grove on the Alton estate!
This image shows a band on a truck in Tangley Grove
...And from a different angle
George Brown MP (left) and Hugh Jenkins MP talk to gathered Alton residents
And here's another image of George Brown addressing the crowd: you can see Sherfield Gardens in the background (and a little bit of Tunworth Crescent). Notice how different the green looks without the now mature trees that surround it!
You can watch the whole pathe clip (sadly without sound) here: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=73578 - it's a collection of footage from across the general election: the Roehampton clips start at just over a quarter of the way in.
We want this to be your first stop for information about our patch
This blog will talk about the issues - big and small - affecting Roehampton, report news and things of interest about the area; our local councillor Peter Carpenter will write regularly here on what he's up to and how to get in touch; and we want to hear from you about your views and ideas to make the area better.
This site is maintained by local Labour Party campaigners but first and foremost this is a Roehampton site, not a Labour site, so whoever you support, get involved.
